Children > 3-24 months

• with fever
• no focus of infection
• not toxic
• no shock

- Follow-up in 24 hours is essential unless fever resolved without antibiotics.

- Recommend a urine culture in males < 12 mos of age, males with previous UTIs, and all females, unless they have evidence for a URTI or gastroenteritis. LP is mandatory if unexplained lethargy or irritability, headache, or other signs/symptoms of meningeal irritation, unless there are contraindications.
