Infants 1 - 3 months

- Hospitalization is recommended if:

  • < 6 months old with suspected bacterial pneumonia
  • respiratory distress and hypoxemia
  • complicated pneumonia (parapneumonic effusions, multilobar disease, abscesses/cavities, necrosis, empyema, pneumothorax or bronchopleural fistula, or hematogenously acquired pneumonia)
  • suspected CA-MRSA
  • careful observation/follow-up at home cannot be ensured.
