Risk factors for MRSA:

• known/suspected MRSA

• recent hospitalization

• rapid onset/progression

• history/suspicion of insect bite

• surrounding cellulitis

Incision and drainage may be all that is required. If antibiotic therapy is deemed necessary, cultures recommended. Check susceptibility of MRSA. Do not use clindamycin empirically for MRSA as significant resistance.
